米国人の10人に1人が抗うつ薬を使用

　薬大国と言われる米国ですが、19日、CDC（疾病対策センター）から、12歳以上の抗うつ薬の使用上状況（2005-2008年）をまとめたレポートが公表されています。

Antidepressant Use in Persons Aged 12 and Over: United States, 2005–2008

　このレポートは、全国健康栄養調査（the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys）から明らかになったもので、次のようなことがわかったそうです。

• 12歳以上の人で抗うつ薬を服用したことがある人は11％
• 抗うつ薬を服用している人は男性より女性が多い
• 強い抑うつ症状がある人のおよそ1/3は抗うつ薬を服用している
• 抗うつ薬を服用している人の14％は少なくとも10年以上服用している
• 過去1年間にメンタンルヘルスの専門家を訪れた人は、1種類の抗うつ薬を服用している人で1/3以下、複数の抗うつ薬を服用している人で1/2以下だった。

　これを男女別に表にすると次のようになります。中高年女性の服用率の高さが目立ちます。

　競争社会という社会背景もあるかもしれませんが、思春期で約5％、中高年女性で約20％もの人が抗うつ薬を服用しているのはすごいと思います。（うつ病の）過剰診断ではないかとの声も挙がっていますね。
