2007.10.23　LovastatinのOTC化、再び検討へ（米国）

米FDAは22日、Mevacor（一般名：Lovastatin、本邦未発売）のOTC化を検討する、非処方せん薬諮問委員会（Nonprescription Drugs Advisory Committee）と内分泌代謝薬諮問委員会（Endocrinologic and Metabolic Drugs　Advisory Committee）の合同会議を12月13日に開催すると発表しました。

委員会は、発売元のメルク社提出の資料を検討するという形で行われ、効能は心臓病の一次予防（prevent a first heart attack）のためのコレステロール低下、用量は20mg/日のようです。

LovastatinのOTC化は、実は過去2000年と2005年に同じ諮問委員会で検討されています。しかし、当時は安全性の問題の他、behind-the-counterなどの薬剤師を通じた販売方法の仕組みが制度されていないとして、OTC化は実現しませんでした。

来月、BTC薬制度導入を検討するヒアリングが行われることを10月4日のTOPICSで皆さんに紹介しましたが、おそらくこのBTC薬導入を前提として、スイッチ化の検討を改めて行うのではないかと考えています。おそらく今回は認められるのではないでしょうか。

スタチンについては、英国では既にシンバスタチンがOTCにスイッチされていますが、もし米国でスイッチされれば世界で2番目になります。販売方法など、今後に注目したいと思います。
